The Skinny on Barcelona
In short, Barcelona is a fantastic city. So, if you are on a budget, you can simply wander around the confines of the city. It makes for an interesting walk too. The hot summers can be stifling, so head out in May or June to get the most from the city. What’s more, it’s cheaper to travel at this time of year as it is still classed as out of season. You don’t have to spend a fortune on accommodation either. People put their houses up for rent for a holiday via the internet and services like Airbnb. So, instead of paying for a hotel room, you get the whole house for the length of your trip! The Euro is particularly strong at the moment, so you may not get a whole lot in exchange for your pound. But, it’s a great place to go. There are a wealth of street food vendors and independent cafes. Cafe culture is synonymous with Mainland Europe. Barcelona is no different. These are inexpensive to eat within, so you get a lot for your money. If you want a cheap way to travel, get on board the Metro. Get a T10 ticket and be armed for the week. The underground stations are quick, clean, and efficient. What more could you want?
Check out the Scenery
One of the most unusual things that you can do in Barcelona is head to the hills. The city is adjacent to the countryside and is the perfect way to get panoramic views of the city. The unspoiled rolling hills are a short walk from the thriving city center. The Carmel Bunkers are located at the top of the hills too. These are free to enter, and you can roam around with ease. If the city gets too much, this is the best way to see more of this stunning Spanish region.
Museums on a Sunday are Free!
After 3 pm on a Sunday, all museums in Barcelona are free. So, if you want to see more of the region’s history, this is the best time to go. The Picasso Museum is a must for any art buff. The Museum of History in Barcelona is the perfect place to learn more about ancient Catalonia. If you want to soak up some more contemporary Spanish art, head to the Museum of Art of Catalonia. This has some truly quirky and original art forms in its confines.
Head to the Gothic Quarter
If you are something of a wanderer and you like to soak up the atmosphere, the medieval Gothic Quarter is the best place to be.
