If you are among the many people who like to get away for a well-earned break during winter, there are many fine destinations that you can choose from. Whether you are looking for a family holiday or a romantic break – or even a fun holiday with a group of friends – we can recommend you consider Bulgaria. This wonderful part of Europe offers many attractions during winter – not least the excellent ski resorts – and is rapidly becoming one of the most popular destinations for winter holidays.
With spectacularly beautiful scenery and a rich cultural history, Bulgaria is the perfect place to go to experience somewhere new, and now may be the best time to go before it becomes crowded like many other European countries. If skiing is your pastime of choice, Borovets Bulgaria offers some of the best slopes in Europe, and is a lively and popular resort with superb hotels, and plenty of fine restaurants and bars.
Things to Do in Bulgaria
Part of the appeal of Bulgaria is that, compared to many European destinations, it remains surprisingly affordable. Visit the wonderful capital, Sofia, and you can find good hotels for very little outlay, all with excellent facilities and quality service. There is plenty of information on BalkanHolidays.co.uk, so we recommend you check out the BH site for the latest great deals.
If you are lucky enough to spend Christmas in Bulgaria, you may witness some of the ancient and unique customs that are carried out. Koleduvane is a ritual carried out on Christmas Eve, a day of much celebration, in which a group of youngsters visit homes and sing traditional songs, in exchange for coins and food. The Bulgarian Christmas Eve meal is a veritable feast, with seven or nine different dishes, including a pitta bread with a coin in, which traditionally brings luck to the recipient.
Springs and Spas
Bulgaria is also home to more than 200 natural mineral water hot springs, which offer temperatures sufficient for warm bathing on a winters day, and you can enjoy a wonderful spa experience in one of the many spa resorts throughout the country. A friendly welcome awaits you wherever you go, and there is plenty to keep the history buffs occupied, with many old castles and other historical sites to visit. Whether you want an action=packed skiing holiday, or a relaxing break somewhere different, we can’t recommend Bulgaria highly enough.
While ideal for winter holidays, it is worth mentioning that Bulgaria is also a popular summer holiday destination. The weather in Sozopol, Bulgaria – a fabulous beach resort on the wonderful Black Sea coast – in summer months makes it perfect for a sun, sea and sand break at affordable prices. These are just a few reasons to visit this quite beautiful and evocative country, and there are many more. If you are searching for a holiday destination that is unspoilt, uncrowded and sensibly priced, then we reckon Bulgaria may be the perfect choice, so check it out now and book a dream holiday you can afford.
